This is one of the very first top patterns I made a couple years ago, and I really like the pattern. I followed it closely when making it the first time, even down to gathering that wide neckline by hand and then hand-stitching the neckband down on the inside. It was made out of a heavy interlock that doesn't drape all that well and I wasn't fantastically pleased with the overall result.

Not too thrilled with all the time that first one took, on the subsequent two versions I made a couple months ago, I decided to make a simple elastic casing at the neckline and threaded 1/4" elastic through it. I also used 1/4" elastic in the sleeve and waistline casings.

Overall it's a nice, easy raglan top that works well with lightweight, flowy fabrics. Now all I need is a little work on modeling and ironing.

Yellow Rose Handknits is born! So far one set of dishcloths and one cowl have been manufactured under this label. And who knows? That may be it. We'll see how much I like knitting gifts. They are a bit faster to sew...

tissue poms

This is one of those projects that I've meant to do for awhile. Getting a few things put on the walls upstairs made me think more about fun things for Baby to look at, and  I thought some simple poms would add a little color and interest when she's in her crib. Started with the Martha tutorial and found that I could use 4 sheets of tissue paper to make 1 medium pom and one smaller one. My paper was 20"x26", so I cut the sheets into 2 10"x20" rectangles and 2 6"x10" rectangles, like so (not to scale).

 
This gave me a total of 8 layers of each size from 4 sheets. I folded the small ones in about 1/2" folds and the larger ones about 1". I also didn't have any floral wire, so I just tied fishing line around the fan before fluffing it out, leaving a 3' or so tail for hanging at whatever length I later decided. This worked okay, but a couple of the poms hang crookedly, so I wouldn't recommend that approach if looking for perfection.

This is the paper I happened to have on hand and I was happy they were primary colors!
