camping day 2 - miner's beach, miner's castle and miner's falls

After a little picnic lunch to fortify us, we set off to enjoy the beach!

Of course, the sand must be tested and tasted

We played and played

Papa did some adventuring

And then we headed off to Miner's Castle for a short hike and some photo ops

It was a photo like the one below on the Pure Michigan site (of course sunnier and professionally taken) that got me interested in taking a trip to the UP in the first place

But I think I like this view even better!

We capped off the afternoon with a hike to Miner's Falls

It was a brief hike through a hilly, forested area filled with very pretty yellow birch trees

Time for a nap!

A great first full day at Pictured Rocks!

camping day 2 - sand point

Just past Munising Falls was a great interpretive trail and beach area, Sand Point.

A main feature, of course (click to enlarge)

It was a really nice foresty/marshy trail with lots of different plants and absolutely no one else around - very peaceful. So peaceful, in fact, someone couldn't resist a little nap.

Right across the street was a beautiful white sand beach with very shallow water. Too bad it was CHILLY!

We returned here a couple days later when it was sunny and R was awake so she could play and play in the sand!

camping day 2 - munising falls

We set out to see the sights - after a hearty breakfast...
a jaunt around the campsite...
and a stop at National Park HQ, of course!

Munising Falls was just a short drive out of town and then an easy hike amongst the trees and rocks
Papa got the added exercise benefit of carrying Baby on Day 1!
Some lush foliage
And the first of several waterfalls during our trip
